Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have found a variety of engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer lets you play a protagonist that is actually a dung trying to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. In 150 challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a store to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.

Time your actions with caution, as a wrong move requires starting over. Jump using air pockets to launch the poop higher, traverse crumbling surfaces, and interact with switches to reveal hidden paths. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages in which gameplay ramps up.

Graphically, the game features vibrant level designs and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics featuring morphing abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though tough to recall similar titles where you are a coiled turd, gaming often incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content is present heavily in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is ready currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on PC in the fall.
